Kaufman Herald January 11, 1945 "Rev. Steve Harwell, formerly of Hiram, but late of Dallas, passed away at a Terrell clinic Thursday following a heart attack ten days ago. He was brought to the hospital from his home in Dallas. The body was taken to the home of his daughter, Miss Charlsie Harwell in Cockrell Hill, Dallas where it remained. The services were held at Five Mile Baptist Church Friday. Interment in the community cemetery. Rev. Steve Harwell was born in Tennessee on August 4, 1888. The family came to Texas twelve years later, locating at Waxahachie. Moving from there to ___, then to Jacksonville. From there he moved to Kaufman County where he served Hiram, Poetry and Camp Ground as pastor of the Baptist churches. He was widely known through East Texas. He married Miss Mary Etta Bowman April 20, 1908 and to them were born two children. Surviving him are his widow, one son, P. E. Harwell of Brownwood and one daughter, Miss Charlsie Harwell of Dallas, one grandson, two brothers, John Harwell of Fort Worth, Tom Harwell of Wellington; one half-brother, George Harwell of Ervin; two half-sisters and other relatives. He united with the Baptist church early in life." Obit hard to read.

Former Britton Pastor Dies
Steve Harwell, brother-in-law of Harbert Bowman, died after a brief illness in a Terrell hospital last Thursday, Jan. 4. He was 58 years of age, and was a former pastor at Britton a few years back.
He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Mary Bowman; a son, Pascal Harwell of Brownwood, Tex. and a daughter, Miss Charlsie Harwell of Dallas. She and her mother will continue to make their homes there.
