Child 15 Months Old Drowns In Mill Pond

Jimmie Rogers,15 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rogers who lived four miles south of Reidsville, was drowned yesterday afternoon about two o'clock in the mill pond just back of the Rogers home, while the mother and children were bathing in the pond. Mrs. Rogers had come out of the water and was sitting on the bank with the baby in her arms. Two of the children became strangled and called for help. Mrs. Rogers went into the water to assist the others, and the little fellow was lost sight of for a few minutes. A half hour later the boy was recovered from the water by Mr. Riggs, a neighbor, who was attracted to the pond by the screams of bathers.
Mr. Rogers, father of the child, was about four miles away working in his farm, and the baby had been recovered before he could be advised and retuned home.
Mrs. Rogers had to be taken from the water several times, as she tired to locate her lost baby and was herself in danger of losing her life in the attempt. The other children were saved by one of the larger girls who pulled them from the water while herself holding to some bushes.
Little Jimmie is survived by his parents, and one brother: Alton Rogers; and five sisters: Dorris, Edna, Nell, Audrey, and Edna Rogers.
Funeral services were conducted from Shiloh Methodist church this morning at 10 o'clock by Rev. Chas. C. Cliett, the pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery.
