Jeanne W. McDOWELL, 73, of Sarasota, Fla., died July 9, 1998, of pancreatic cancer at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida. She was a former resident of Rudyard, Mich.

Jeanne Wolvin was born March 27, 1925, to Claude Wolvin and Lillie May (DEWHIRST) WOLVIN.

On Aug. 21, 1948, she married Vern E. McDOWELL, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1992.

Jeanne taught school for 30 years. She held a bachelor of science degree from Central Michigan University and a master of early education from Northern Michigan University.

Jeanne was an active member of North First United Methodist Church of Sarasota, Fla.; secretary of United Methodist Women; Rachel/Ruth Circle, Prayer Fellowship and Bread Ministry; SPARCC (Sate Place and Rape Crisis Center); humane society; secretary for Sarasota Succulent Society; and Tri Par Estates Michigan Club.

She was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, Michigan Education Association-Retired and National Education Association-Retired. He past involvement included work with People to People and Auxilliary to Michigan State Board of Conservation.

She enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting, photography, various crafts and world-wide travel, recently completing travel to her seventh continent with a tour of Australia.

Survivors include one son, David (Denise) McDOWELL, of Harbor Springs; one daughter, Patricia McDOWELL, (Rick McDONALD), of Bakersfield, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sarah McDOWELL, and Benjamin and Daniel BOYCE; and two step-grandchildren, Emily and Ryan McDONALD.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 16, at the Reamer Funeral Home in Pickford. Interment took place in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Pickford. A memorial service will be held at a later date, in Sarasota, Fla.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the North First United Methodist Church of Sarasota,Fla., or to the Pickford United Methodist Church.
