A talented banjo player, Charles E. Scharf -- son of Robert and Jane (McNulty) Scharf of Baltimore City -- was actually born in December 1865 according to census records taken when he was a child and living with his parents.

In addition to teaching and playing music, Charles was also a traveling salesman for the Steiff Piano Company.

His first wife was Helena C (unknown maiden name). They married in 1883, divorced in 1895 and had one child.

His second wife was Anna Margaret (unknown maiden name). She and Charles were married about 1898. They are together in the 1910 census in Baltimore City. Charles and Anna Margaret did not have any children. In the 1930 census she is a widow living in the Temple Court Apartments on University Parkway, Baltimore.

A third wife was Oda Louise (nee Shipley). She and Charles were married on January 7, 1914 in Frederick, MD. In about 1917 they appeared to have moved to Hagerstown, MD.

According to his death certificate, he died in Chambersburg, PA of a cerebral hemorrhage. He is buried in Hagerstown, MD (about 20 miles south of Chambersburg) next to his third wife Oda Louise.
