Mrs Anna compton Succumbs to Illness.
On March 15, at the Oroville Curran Hospital death came to Anna MargaretCompton, well known rsident of Paradise for the past 13 years.
The deceased was born in Kansas but when yet a young girl came to California and lived for awhile in Los Angeles. In 1900 she was married to Frank Compton and the young couple made their home in Stirling City where Compton was employed by the Diamond Match Company as superintendent of production. Later they moved to Oroville and then in 1931 came to Paradise for Compton had been appointed superintendent of the Paradise Irrigation District, an office he still holds.
Mrws Compton was an active member of the Congrefarional Church and was helpful in many community affairs.
A large crowd gathered at the church on Friday afternoon, March 17, to attend the funeral services. The pastor of the curch, the Reverend W.H,L. Marshall, officiated. Two duets, "The old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God to Thee" were sung by Mrs. Fred Spreen and Mrs Guy Kratzer. Mrs Bertha Henderson accompanied the singers and also played selections of favorite hymns preceding the services, and as the friends passed out of the church. The casket was surrounded by numerous sprays of beautiful flowers and ferns. Pallbeares were A.R. McConnell, J.A. Ream, H.R. Whittlesey, J.G. Bryan, H.S. Clewett, and Robert Hatch. Interment took place in the family plot in the local cemetery.
Surviving are the folowing: the widower, Frank A Compton, three sons; Frank Compton of Erie, Pennsylvania, Stanley N. Compton of Stockton, and Robert H Compton of Whittier, California, Sheis also survived by a sister, Miss Eula Nesbit of Los Angeles and a brother Hayes Nesbit of Paradise.
