William Charles "Billie" Wright (1842-1907), of Beech Grove, was a Union veteran of the Civil War, a Sgt in Prange's Co. D of the 35th KY Mounted Infantry who deafeated Hollis's Company at Slaughtersville and fought at the first battle of Saltville, VA. His brother, John W. Wright, was a private in Co. K, 5th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Confederate). W. C. Wright was a farmer and pastor of New Salem Primitive Baptist Church for 17 years. He was married to Ruth Pickard (mother of his children) and after her death to Mag Travis. His grandmother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Brents Wright appears to have inherited the family homestead at Beech Grove from her mother Hannah Wright Brents Lynn (1767-1833) and both women may be buried there in the family plot. Betsy was the wife of William Wright (1776-1848). They were the parents of 11 children. Betsy's son (W.C.'s father), Joshua Wright (1809-1849), and W.C. himself seems to have lived on the land until their deaths, as did possibly his youngest sons William Caleb Wright (1880-1949)(#34850341) and Leslie Purl Wright(1884-1934).
