"Just before the departure of Levinus for Europe, a settlement of thier father's property had been made which yielded in personalty to each of the sons six thousand pounds. The estate further embraced considerable realty in the city, in the county of Westchester, and elsewhere....Received of my brother, David Clarkson, two hundred pounds, which I acknowledge he paid; one hundred pounds towards purchasing plate to make me equal with the rest of my brothers,--the other hundred he generously give me, imagining I have not received so many advantages from the estate as they have by that sum. ‘Lev. Clarkson, October 20, 1761"
Levinus Clarkson "continued to reside with David [his brother] until 1761, when he made a trip to Europe," returning the following year and marrying not long after. First living, apparently, in New York [1760's] and Flatbush [by 1771-c.1772], he established himself in 1772 as a commission merchant in South Carolina, but came north again after about three years. He then lived for a number of years in New Brunswick, N.J., occupying a house on what was later called Livingston Avenue. He died at Jamaica, L.I., and was buried in the Flatbush cemetery.
