He was born June 1, 1933 in Orem to Roy and Margaret Skinner Rowland. He married Iris Maxine Housekeepper on October 1, 1955 in Provo.
Dean grew up in Orem and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Geneva Steel and Kennecott Copper as a Master Electrician and an Instrument Repairman and retired from both companies.
Dean enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, rock hounding, and especially spending time with his family. He was active in the Provo Elks Lodge #849 and served as Exalted Ruler. Dean coached youth sports in Pleasant Grove and served as Scout Master in the Pleasant Grove Seventh Ward.
Dean is survived by his four children: Debbie (Randy) Hansen, Salt Lake City; Rick (Paula) Rowland, Orem; Carrie (Ed) Prewitt, Payson; Kent Rowland, Pleasant Grove; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings: Shirley Hatch, Betty Pawlowski, Evelyn Hilton, and Gary Rowland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, and infant daughter, Kathy.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
