Jimmy Lewis Langston died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, after an extended illness.

Born in Winfield, Ala., on May 27, 1932, Mr. Langston was a graduate of the University of North Alabama (Florence State) and a retired employee of Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a Korean War veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star for Gallantry in Action. Mr. Langston was a member of Leighton Baptist Church.

Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., with Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Alma Langston, of Winfield, and his oldest brother, Maurice Langston, of Winfield.

He is survived by his wife, Lurlene Grissom Langston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Langston Tucker and husband, Dr. Bobby Tucker, of Woodstock, Ga., Amy Langston Handley and husband, Jonathan Handley, of Sheffield, Ala.; one granddaughter, Anna Handley; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gaynel Langston, of Winfield; four sisters, Frances Beasley and husband, Stewart Beasley, of Jasper, Ala., Carolyn Mann, of Townley, Ala., Freda Hubbert and husband, George Hubbert, of Duluth, Ga., Nelda Oswalt and husband, Judge William Oswalt, of Fayette, Ala.; sister-in-law, Myra Beal Langston, of Winfield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bennie and Kay Grissom, of Leighton, and James and Mae Wood, of Town Creek; a number of nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Frankie Foster; and Hospice of the Shoals, especially Wanda, Lisa, Michelle, Dawn, Cynthia and D'arcy.

Pallbearers will be Michael Langston, Whitney Oswalt, Zachary Hubbert, Ron Strawbridge, Clay DeFoor, Alan Goforth and Jamie Abel, Dave Smith, Felix Von Ulanski and Craig Smith.

Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
