ANDERSON, age 50, was shot twice in the face. He died instantly. Mrs. Pearl COLVIN, daughter of ANDERSON who recently moved to Perryton from LaJunta, Colorado, to make her home with her father, was present at the time of the shooting.
Martin was held in jail until late Tuesday afternoon when he was released on a $10,000 bond to await action of the grand jury at the November term of the district court. Elmer ANDERSON, son of the dead man, filed the complaint against Martin charging him with "Murder with malice aforethought." He waived an examining trial. Amount of bond was set by Justice of Peace Dewey R. Allen after an agreement between District Attorney W. L. McConnell and Judge R. T. Correll, head of the counsel retained by Martin. Signers of the $10,000 bond are J. H. Palmer, David Wilson, C. B. Riley, Spearman; and three brothers of the defendant, E. C., E. E. and J. H. Martin, all of Hansford county.
Mrs. Ernest ANDERSON first wife of the victim, has been separated from ANDERSON for several years. She is a sister of Mrs. M. C. MARTIN, the defendant's wife. Mrs. ANDERSON and her two children live in Colorado.
R. T. Correll assisted by the law firm of Hoover, Hoover & Cussens, Canadian will defend MARTIN.
The defendant has been a resident of Perryton for about years coming here from Hansford county. The MARTIN family settled in Ochiltree county in 1900 and have lived in the two counties since that time. His father, Bob Martin, was killed in the line of duty while serving as sheriff of Hansford county in 1911. Martin, age 48, is married and the father of six children.
ANDERSON's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. ANDERSON, live northwest of Perryton just across the line in Beaver county. He has four brothers living in Perryton and two in Arizona. He had been employed by the Texhoma Natural Gas Company as a pipe line walker for the past eleven years.
