Jay G. Lawrence, 21 of Smithfield, died Saturday February 10th at South County Hospital from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Providence, he was the son of Gerald P. and Lynne (Sutcliffe) Lawrence.
He was a graduate of Smithfield High School in 1997, where he was captain of the hockey team and was elected to the all state team in 1996 and 1997. He was a junior at the University of Rhode Island.
Besides his parents he leaves a brother Peter A. Lawrence of Smithfield, his maternal grandparents George and Olive (Chew) Sutcliffe of Smithfield, his Godparents Donald and Barbara Darby in Florida and his girl friend Christi Machala of Smithfield. He was the Grandson of the late Nellie P. Lawrence.
a funeral service was held Wednesday February 14 at the Ocean State Baptist Church, Smithfield. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston, R.I. The Rev. William Turner and Rev Archie Emerson, both officated at the service.
Pallbearers were Peter Lawrence, Michael Romano, Gregory Young, Matt Tsonos, Jay Smith and Brendon Anzelone.
