Captain George Jerome, one of the pioneer steamboatmen of the Willamette, and for a number of years in command of the steamer Orient, died at his residence in this city at 2:35 P.M. yesterday. His funeral taken place today under the auspices of the order of Odd Fellows. The services will be held at the First Congregational church at 1:30 P.M., after which the remains will be conveyed to River View cemetery on the steamboat Orient, the use of which has been tendered by the O.R.& N. Co. for the occasion. Captain Jerome has been familiarly known along the river for years as "Capt. George." He was a skillful pilot and very popular among the traveling public, and an honest upright citizen. The cause of his death was blood poisoning, occasioned by a slight bruise on his right leg.
