Born February 28, 1920, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Nevin E. and Frances Sarsfield Shultz of Cashtown.
Mrs. Newman graduated from Gettysburg High School and Thompson's Business College of York.
She worked in York as a private secretary for 10 years. After her marriage in 1947, she became a wife and eventually a mother.
Mrs. Newman was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, where she belonged to the PCCW. She belonged to AARP and served as the secretary for Meals-on-Wheels in Fairfield for many years.
She was the wife of Robert E. Newman until his death on June 21, 1985 and is survived by one daughter, Brenda Newman Pine and husband, David of Fairfield; two sons, Stephen Newman and wife, Brenda of Gettysburg, and Jeffrey Newman and wife, Susan of Hanover; five grandchildren, Robert Pine and wife, Sharon of Atglen, Scott Newman of Gettysburg, Timothy Newman of Gettysburg, Jacob Newman of Hanover, and Elizabeth Pine Howe and husband, Jason of Waynesboro; a great-granddaughter and soon to be born second great-granddaughter, Gabriella Howe of Waynesboro; a sister, Della Mae Berra of South Portland, Mainel and a number of nieces and nephews.
Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Fairfield.
