Rachel was a daughter of Emanuel Pitman and Esther Funkhouse. On February 8, 1818, she married Erasmus "Asa" Rosenbarger in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Later the family moved to Harrison County, Indiana and bought a tract of land in Brushey Valley (Depauw, Blue River Township). There they had at least twelve children:
Rudolph (1819-1842, married Barbara Stonecipher)
Leah (1820-1884, married John Herbaugh)
Emanuel (1821-1887)
Rebecca Ann (1822-1905, married Henry J. Stonecipher)
Catharine (1825-1914, 1st married to Judge Herbaugh)
Anthony (1827-1838)
Esther (1828-1879, married Ephraim Goss)
Barbara (born and died 1832)
Philip (1833-?, married Elizabeth Taylor)
David (1835-1916, married Louisa Taylor)
Jacob (1837-1838)
An unknown girl who is buried in Brushey Valley Cemetery

Their daughter Catharine was married five times. Her second husband was John Stonecipher, who is buried near Asa and Rachel.
