Memorial service for Henry Shelton, a retired executive vice president and chairman of the board of directors of Forest Grove National Bank, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in United Church of Christ Congregational in Forest Grove.

The memorial service will be preceded by a private family cryptside committal service. Mr. Shelton died of congestive heart failure Wednesday in his Forest Grove home. He was 90.

He was born in Pomeroy, Wash., on Dec. 16, 1899.

The son of a pioneer family, Mr. Shelton joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Pomeroy High School, and fought in World War I.

After his discharge he attended the Oregon State Agricultural College in Corvallis and received his degree in business.

He spent more than 45 years in the banking field, beginning his career in 1922 as a bank teller in the First National Bank of Pullman, Wash.

Mr. Shelton moved with his family to Forest Grove in 1943, when he assumed his responsibilities with Forest Grove National. He was the bank's executive director at the time of its expansions into the Cornelius and Banks areas.

He retired in 1968 as executive vice president and chairman of the board of directors of the bank, which is now U.S. National Bank's Forest Grove branch.

Mr. Shelton served on the board of the Oregon Bankers Association, and was its president in 1957-1958. He also served on the board of the American Bankers Association. He also served on the Forest Grove City Council in the 1940s and was a longtime member of the Forest Grove Congregational Church, the Forest Grove Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion.

His first wife, the former Mildred M. Davis, died on Jan. 20, 1966. He was married to Louise Wilson from 1975 to 1978.

Mr. Shelton is survived by his son, Donald of Forest Grove; daughters, Virginia C. Young of Bucharest, Romania, and Carol S. Smith of Long Beach, Calif.; brother, Dale of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Hazel Koller and Doris Koller, both of Pomeroy, and Clare Steiger of Colfax, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
