Violet M. Shaffer

SEVEN VALLEYS - Violet M. (Werner) Shaffer, 87, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lester R. Shaffer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion (Shaffer's) United Lutheran Church, 4535 Shaffer Road, Seven Valleys, with her pastor, the Rev. J. Thomas Shelley, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewings will be held at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Shaffer was born in Codorus Township on April 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Charles Q. and Mary Jane (Stiffler) Werner.
She attended Sterner's one room school in Codorus Township and had assisted her late husband and her family with the operations of the family "Homestead" farm in Codorus Township. She was employed as a seamstress for several years at the Seven Valleys Garment Company. Violet was a member of Zion (Shaffer's) United Lutheran Church, where she had been a Sunday School and a Bible School Teacher for many years and was active in many church organizations and committees. She also had been a 4-H Leader with the Jefferson 4-H Club and was a member of the Jefferson Chapter 3699 AARP. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events and also loved gardening and growing flowers around her home. She was an avid Baltimore Oriole Baseball fan and was an enthusiast of the card game 500.
She leaves a daughter, Jane A. Stiffler and her husband, Larry of Glen Rock; two sons, Leslie R. "Les" Shaffer and his wife, Cheryl of York and Keith A. Shaffer and his wife, Glenda of Seven Valleys; six grandchildren, Todd, Kevin and Andrew Stiffler, Aaron, Reuben and Cameron Shaffer; seven great-grandchildren, Daniel, Hannah, Emma, Megan and Rachel Stiffler, Ava and Claire Violet Shaffer; and two sisters, Saranda Miller of Fallbrook, Calif., and Anna Miller of Spring Grove.
