Mr. George Tate G.T. Sisson, age 90, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this Friday morning, January 22, 2010 at the home of his daughter, Betty Stanley in Tunnel Hill, Georgia.

Mr. Sisson was lovingly known to his grandchildren as PePaw and PaPaw.

He was born May 14, 1919 in Etowah, Tennessee, a son of the late Manuel and Maggie Harris Sisson.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Estlene Hammontree Sisson, second wife, Jessie Tate Sisson and a son, Gary Sisson.

He was retired from Shaw Industries where he worked as a supervisor.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Herman Stanley, Carolyn and Danny Patterson all of Tunnel Hill, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Frankie Sisson of Cohutta, GA, Charles and Kathy Sisson, Bobby and Charlene Sisson and Brenda Sisson all of Dalton, GA; sister, Sue Goss of Dalton, GA; step-children and their spouses, Cathy and Bob Brantley, Sheila and Dale Brannen all of Savannah, GA, and Ricky and Debbie Webb of Resaca, GA; fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. George T. Sisson will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Chasteen and Reverend Clayton Brown officiating.

He will be laid to rest at the Whitfield Memorial Gardens with his grandchildren, Robby Sisson, Gregg Sisson, Josh Callaway, Tony Stanley, Nathan Callaway, Jonathan Sisson, Derrick Callahan and Christopher Callahan serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Kenny Goss, Eddie Goss, Dana Goss, Lamar Nance and Darryl Powell.

The America Legion Post #112 will provide military graveside honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5:00 p.m. Saturday, all day Sunday and Monday until the funeral hour.
