The body of L. E. Rainbolt, 50 years old, prominent businessman of this
city, was found in Griffey Creek six miles north of the city early today ….
Rainbolt, who had been missing since Friday had gone to the spot, sat
down on the ground and fired a shotgun into his heart …
During a heavy storm yesterday, back waters covered the ground where
his body lay … His automobile was found on the road and on the seat was a
note saying that his body would be found east of the car, where Sheriff
Ray Steppins and others took it from the water …

Despondency over financial matters is believed to have caused Rainbolt to take
his life .. He moved here several years ago from Bedford and established himself
in the roofing business …
Survivors are the widow and three children of this city, his father, three brothers,
Urban and Horace Rainbolt, florists of Bedford, and Mahlon Rainbolt, chief of police
of that city and a sister, Mrs. Frank Stoneaker of Bedford ….
