Harry Deutsch's obituary came back to the Rapid City Journal, not very complete and is part of the Leedy Obituaries of pioneers and others of Rapid City held by the Minnilusa Historical Society in Rapid City SD.
He was born to John and Emma Hardt Deutsch, they are in the 1890 Reconstructed Census of Pennington County Land Owners and Residents. He has siblings Earl, and Olive. He was a 1913 graduate of Rapid City High School. Harry's father died in 1901, the 1910 census lists his mother Emma and siblings Earl 21, Olive 18 , Myrtle 12 and Raymond 9.
He married Clara Peterson in 1915 in Pennington County, s;he was 20 and he was 21. In 1917 he signed up for the WW 1 draft in Lawrence County. He was working for the Trojan Mill in Lead. He was in the national guard in a medical unit, he was a seargent. He he had twisted his knee but it wasn't serious. He was of medium build, had bronw hair and brown eyes, he was married and had one child.
Harry was an 1919 graduate of the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City SD and received his professionl degree in 1921. He worked for Aluminum Company of America in Fairfield Connecticut.
While in school he played football and was captain of the basketball team, business manager of the Pahsapah quarerly and student assistant in metallurgy.
He was suvived by a wife and daughter and a brother Raymond, who is also a School of Mines graduate in 1923 and is now a government engineer in San Francisco California.
Raymond died in San Francisco May 21, 1976.
Olive died in 1945 at the age of 22 and is buried in Mt Calvary Cemetery Pennington Couonty SD.
