William “Buffalo Bill” Jackson

Buffalo Bill was indicted for murder in Clay County, Texas. Sheriff Richard Kirk went to Belknap to arrest Buffalo Bill.

Buffalo Bill was shot and killed on the streets of Belknap by Young County Sheriff Richard Kirk. Richard Kirk had gone to Belknap to arrest Buffalo Bill on a warrant. The two men met on the streets, drew their guns, shot at each other and both died.

Young County Sheriff Richard Kirk is buried in the Oak Grove cemetery in Graham, Texas.
