Edgar Isaiah DeGroat, 76, died Monday, Dec. 11, at his home at Ogema.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at the David-Donehower Chapel in Detroit Lakes, with Fr. Ron Meyer officiating. The David-Donehower Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Edgar Isaiah DeGroat, son of Frank and Anna Kronk DeGroat, was born near Ogema on Jan. 29, 1924. He was raised and attended school in the Ogema area and served with the U. S. Army Air Corps in Germany, England and in the United States. Mr. DeGroat and Dorothy Margaret Glenn were married on July 2, 1946, in Coleraine, Ireland. He retired from the armed forces in 1963, they moved to Ogema and he farmed for two years. Mrs. DeGroat died in 1965 and he moved to Minneapolis, where he was employed by the Mechanics Testing Corp. in Eden Prairie. Upon retiring from that employment in 1975, he returned to Ogema.
Surviving are four sons–Ronald, St. Cloud; Edgar Jr. (Sumi), Huntsville, Ala.; Kevin (Traci), Fairfax, Va., and David (Patty), Ogema; a daughter–Gloria (Don) Smith, Albany, Ga., and a sister–Mae Earnst, Chanhassen. There are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. DeGroat also was preceded in death by a daughter (Susan), his parents, four brothers (Frank, Lester, Gilbert and Oscar), five sisters (Pearl, Eva, Cora, June and Lydia) and a granddaughter.
