Germans were known for their courage & stubborn tenacity & love for their famly. She raised five children to adulthood. Those five children married & between them had 26 children of their own. They left her & Grandpa Philip a legacy to carry on. She immigrated to America from Germany in the early to mid fifties. According to the the children's birth years & her death year. She & her family lived thru the Civil War & World War I. That says a lot right there. So many families lost way to many loved ones during those times. Yet they all survived & lived on. They weren't pioneers as one pictures walking behind a covered wagon. But they were pioneers setting down roots in a big city in America. With the hope of a better future for themselves & their future generations. Thank you Grandma for having the courage to start all over in a strange country that you started calling home.
In 1981 I & my sister Jean found their marker. We actually tripped over it. It was a small bluish green stone with just the surname: VOGEL. It is most likely sunken & covered over by grass & dirt today.
