In 1929 she married John Samuel Baxter. They settled in Ashford, Boone County, W.Va., until 1999. After the passing of Mr. Baxter, she married Frazier Adkins who is also deceased.
She leaves three sons, Gerald of Mebane, N.C., Ronald of Old Fort, N.C., and Jim of Fort Smith, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Essie will be remembered as a caring person and a lifetime member of the Church of God, Ashford.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Sherry of Old Fort and Terry of Fort Smith.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Barker Cemetery, Ashford, W.Va.
