Otis Lee Morris, 90, of Stanardsville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 22, 2010, at his residence.

Otis was born January 17, 1920 in Rockingham County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Ed Ewell Morris and Bessie Shifflett Morris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters, Edith Collier and Ruth Snow, one brother, Omer Morris and one great grandson, Cameron Morris.

Otis is survived by his devoted wife, Gertrude Roach Morris, the love of his life for nearly 69 years, his children Julius Morris of Ruckersville, Betty Morris Marsh and her husband Wilmer of Stanardsville, Dolly Morris Janezic and her husband John of Keswick, Doris Morris Lamb and her husband Richard of Charlottesville and Wayne Morris and his wife Katherine of Stanardsville.

He is also survived by his brothers Joe Morris and his wife Jania of Baltimore, and Wilson Morris and his wife Mary of Stanardsville.

He has 13 grandchildren, Philip Morris and his wife Donna of Ruckersville, Karen Long and her husband Lance of Quinton, Kim Marsh Mesa and her husband Patrick of Boothwynn, PA, Chad Morris and his wife Kim of Ruckersville, Todd Morris and his wife Dana of Barboursville, Tonya Marsh Campbell and her husband Chris of Richmond, Robbie Morris and his wife Katherine of Ruckersville, Jessica Morris of Stanardsville, Shawn Morris and his fiancé Brandi of Stanardsville, Jacquelynn Gerlach of Denver, CO, Michael Janezic of Keswick, Kris Janezic of Keswick, and Jennifer Gerlach Smith and her husband Nick of Fishersville.

He has 16 great grandchildren, Lance and Dylan Long, Allison, Blake, and Tye Morris, Kenton and Conner Morris, Tristan Ferrell and Ethan Morris, Luke and Sophie Morris, Riley and Deacon Campbell, Sydney and Alexandra Mesa, and Carter Morris; and many nieces, nephews, and dear family and friends.

Otis was a devoted Christian and member of Sandy Bottom Pentecostal Church in Elkton for over 40 years. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will always be remembered for his generosity, gentle nature and kindness to others. His great smile, sense of humor and quick wit will be greatly missed.

He served in the United States Army as a rifleman with Company A, 9th Battalion, 2nd Regiment. He was employed at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Baltimore, Md; Frank Ix and Sons, Charlottesville, Va; the City of Charlottesville and retired from Better Living in 1979. However, his greatest passion was farming and raising all types of farm animals. Through the years he tended rabbit, sheep, pigs, hens, horses, cows and goats. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of animals and the outdoors with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were always delighted to see the newest addition to the farm.

Otis leaves a lifetime of many cherished memories of working in his garden and sharing his vegetables; bunnies in the spring time; picking berries and eating watermelon in the summer; rooster crows, squirrel tails and hunting; "wooden nickel" warnings, and for being the family prankster who always wanted to make us laugh.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Wayne and Katherine Morris (son and daughter-in-law) and Sherman and Lorena Deane (nephew and niece) for their selfless assistance and loving care.

The family will receive friends from 4-6pm, Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 1pm at Maple Grove Christian Church, 3210 Proffit Road, Charlottesville with interment to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. Brother Eddie Deane and Pastor Buzzy Deane will officiate.
