Kermith A. Hanna, 84, of Pickford, Michigan, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.

He was born August 15, 1920, in Stalwart to Alexander Hanna and Mary (Portice) Hanna.

A lifelong area resident, Kermith Hanna grew up in Stalwart and worked in logging, farming, and construction as a young man. He married Mildred Leach November 12, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie. Mr. Hanna served in the United States Army during World War II, for the first year in the states and then for two years in the South Pacific. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Chippewa County Road Commission for more than 33 years.

Mr. Hanna attended the Pickford United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pickford Lions Club. For many years, he kept area businesses stocked with Lion's Mints. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and telling jokes. He enjoyed visiting with people of all ages.

He was survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Hanna; a son and his family, David and Robin Hanna of Arlington, Virginia; a daughter and her family, Gloria and Jim Clegg of Pickford; four grandchildren and their families, Mark and Danielle Clegg, Bradley Clegg, Pamela Clegg, and Amy Hanna; two great-grandsons, Maxwell Hansen and Connor Clegg, and two sisters, Janice McCarron and Margarette Allen, both of Sault Ste. Marie.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clark, Melvin, and Eldon, and by one sister, Esther Thompsett.

Services were Saturday, January 29, at Pickford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Paul Gruenberg officiating.
