Bobbie Jean Courtney, 83, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at a local hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Scott's Funeral Home.

Jean was born in Star, Texas, to the late James Robert and Charlene Emily House Moore. She attended school in Evant and Star. She attended college in Ft. Worth. She married Kenneth Sparks of Evant, Texas. They moved to Hamilton and raised their family there. She later moved to Waco. She met and married Frank Courtney of Jonesboro in 1978. They made their home together in Jonesboro, moving to Gatesville in the ‘80s. She worked at one of the local banks in town and was a volunteer at the hospital. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1993; a sister, Norma Evetts; and a brother, Charles Moore.

Survivors include her sons, Dale Sparks and wife, Liz, of Granbury, and Danny Sparks and wife, Vickie, of Lorena; daughter, Deborah Sparks, of Hamilton; four step-children; five grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
