James Bernard Smoot was born to the late Francis Smoot Murrell and Marvin Price on September 16, 1951 in Madison, WV. He departed this life on January 20, 2010 at his home.
"Jim", as he was affectionately known, was educated by the Boone County Public School System and graduated from Scott High School in 1969. He was employed and retired as a United Mine Worker. After retiring he became employed, establishing his own Limo service and car wash.

Jim faithfully attended and unselfishly supported the Zion Baptist Church in Madison. He was known throughout Boone County by many of its citizens, including those holding high responsibility. Wherever he went his gracious smile preceded him and his voice was recognized even if he was not visible.

Jim had three major loves in addition to his family: West Virginia, Boone County and GOLF!

He leaves to forever cherish his memory, his daughter, Anita L. Rodgers and grandaughter, Adrianne L. Rodgers both of Detroit, Michigan; two aunts, Veda McGowan of Cleveland, Ohio and Nora Coles of Columbus, Ohio; one uncle, Ronald Smoot of Cross Lanes, WV; and a host of cousins and many friends.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Michael Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
