WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Elder Jeannie Ashburn, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Stokes-Reynolds Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Surry County to the late William Ashburn and Mary Ann Rachels.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from Hooker Furniture, was an ordained minister of the Primitive Baptist faith and a member and former pastor of Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his daughter, Wanda Lee Ashburn; a sister; and two brothers.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Annie Ruth Collins Ashburn of the home; six children, Dottie (Wayne) Stephens, Donald Ashburn, David Ashburn, Dwight (Delores) Ashburn, Rebecca (Dexter B.) Joyce and Darlene (Ronnie) Southern; a sister, Alice Casstevens; three brothers, Harden Ashburn, Ernest Ashburn and Lindsay (Janie) Ashburn; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Milton Gunter, Elder James Wilkins and Elder David C. Edwards will officiate with a special eulogy by Mr. Herbert Mabe. Burial will follow at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home and other times at the home.
