West Augustine has a new angel in Evergreen Gardens. There, Jan. 8, 14-year-old Lindsay Elizabeth Jones was laid to rest, surrounded by her loving family, her mother, Liz, father, Christopher, older brother, Topher, 17, and 9-year-old sister, Shea, and her grandparents, cousins and friends.
Earlier, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clearwater, the Rev. Joseph H. Diaz, assisted by the Rev. Doug Zimmerman, conducted a service of "Celebration of New Life." My dear friend, Lindsay's uncle, John "Jack" Jones, was one of the pallbearers.

Lindsay was born April 18, 1989, with a rare condition called lissencephaly -- "smooth brain."
Though Lindsay was never able to walk or talk, she found other ways to communicate. She was a source of both joy and heartache for her devoted family.
When her grandmother, Barbara Collins, told me Jan. 4, that Lindsay had died early that morning, she said, "We now have our own saint."
