John Edwin Earn Edwards, 88, went to be with the Lord Wednesday January 20, 2010, at the home of his son in Crystal Springs.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 24, 2010, from the High Street Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Visitation will be between the hours of 5 and 7 PM today and after 1:00 PM Sunday. Interment will follow the service in the Harrisville Cemetery.

Born in Harrisville, MS on August 3, 1921, he was a World War II veteran serving in England, France and Austria, for many months he was chauffeur for Col. Dwight Eisenhower.

After the war he joined the Jackson Police Department for several years, then left the force to drive for Delta Motor Lines. Delta was bought out by Arkansas Best Freight, where he retired with 35 years with a perfect driving record. John was a member of Round A Way Baptist Church. His goal in life was to be the best Christian he could be, the best driver he could be and a friend to everyone. On the road he was well known as "Big John".

Preceding him in death was his wife, Beatrice Brock Edwards; his father, John William Edwards; and his mother, Carrie Vaught Edwards.

Survivors include his son, Glenn Hollis of Crystal Springs; and daughter, Jimmie Oleaga of New Orleans, La.; his sisters, Margaret Edwards Baldridge and Maudie Edwards Mosley; several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
