Benjamin Franklin Angel was born and reared in the Fairland area, one of 10 children. He was a Wyandotte-Cherokee Indian. Ben married twice, first to Thelma Villers whom he married on June 10, 1932, in Fairland. They were the parents of Burlene Marie. After a few years, they divorced and Thelma moved to California with Burlene. He then married Lenora Longan on September 26, 1936, in Neosho, Missouri. Their only son, Robert Franklin, died at the age of 20 in a car accident.

Ben died unexpectedly from a stroke. At the time of his death, he had been employed by the Miami Street Department for four years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fairland.
