At 5 months old, while traveling with his pioneer family from Moroni to Castle Valley in a covered wagon, Erastus passed away in the area above Joe's Valley. He was carried with his family in a hand-made casket and was buried on his grandfather Curtis' farm. Erastus was later moved to the Castle Dale Cemetery, being one of the first to be buried there.
