MILTON, Ind. — Gary Wayne Brown, 65, of Milton, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 19, 2010, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 27, 1944, in East Bernstadt, Ky., one of nine children of Cye and Mary Hibbard Brown.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he received an honorable discharge upon completing his military service during the Vietnam War and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years until his honorable discharge.

Returning to Kentucky for residence, he lived there until moving to Milton.

On April 29, 1987, he was married in West Palm Beach, Fla., to Theresa Goin Brown, a native of Oakland, Cali. Mrs. Brown survives.

For 27 years he was employed as a delivery driver for United Parcel Service.

He was a member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars of Richmond, Ind., the American Legion of Cambridge City, Ind., and the Horseman's Benevolence & Protective Association. For more than 30 years he trained thoroughbred race horses and was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan. During his leisure, he enjoyed attending his granddaughter's gymnastic events, his grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Theresa Brown, he is survived by seven children, Teresa Pipenger and husband Tom and Ginger Martin and husband Ed, all of Centerville, Ind., Tina Hall and husband Tim of Richmond, Brad Kiser of New Castle, Kimberly Hicks of Greenwood, Ind., Stephanie McKinley and husband Jerry of Cambridge City and Cameron Ritchie and wife Victoria of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roy James Brown and wife Diane of Harrison, Ohio, Tom Brown and wife Pam of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Charlie Brown of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Jewel Mendenhall and husband Jeff of Oklahoma, Vivian Armantrout of Muncie and Peggy Hicks of London, Ky.; his father-in-law, Charles Meredith of Selma, Ind.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Brown; two brothers, Eddie Brown and Jack Brown; a grandson, Kyle Kiser; and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with the Rev. Eldon Denney and the Rev. Jeff Mendenhall officiating. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery in Milton with military rites provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
