Jon E. Ball, 74, of Aledo, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, in his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial is at Reynolds Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Masonic Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. A memorial fund will be established and online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.

He was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Davenport, a son of Elbert and Jean Beresford Ball. He graduated class president from Reynolds High School in 1954 and was a graduate of Iowa State University.

Jon was employed at Lafferty Elevator in Indianola, Iowa, prior to a long and successful career in sales management for Moormans Manufacturing in Alpha. He was an Independent Insurance Agent to area farmers for many years and was a very active member of the Illinois FFA, where he was at one time vice president and presided over the state convention.

His memberships included College Avenue Presbyterian Church, having been a member and elder of the former Perryton Presbyterian Church, an active member of FFA Alumni and FFA Foundation, Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge 679, and an active member of the Mercer County Republican Party.

His words of wisdom and his sharing of those words are an inspiration to his family, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and attending local sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; three daughters, Linda (Dale) Bertelsen, Monmouth, Ruth (Jerry) Lamour, Oak Park, Ill., Mary Kay (Lauren) Crawford, Taylor Ridge; a son, Doug (Darla) Ball, Aledo; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathy Wilson, Rock Island; a brother, Fred Ball, Honolulu; and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
