Mart's obituary appeared in The Abilene Reporter-News, Abilene, Texas, 19 Apr 1951, on page 17 under the heading
Ex-Taylor County Resident's Funeral Set Today in Snyder, SNYDER, April 19.

Martin Oliver Smith, a native of Central Texas, was the son of John Milam Smith and Senna V. Hallmark. He married Emma Lena Booth on 18 Apr 1907 near Lake Abilene, in Taylor County, Texas.

The Smiths lived in Callahan and Taylor Counties until 1929, when they moved to Scurry County. At the time of his death, Mart was 65. He died at his home in Snyder following an illness of almost two years.

Mart's funeral was held Thursday in the North Side Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Earl Creswell, officiating.
Burial was to be in Snyder Cemetery under direction of Bolger Barnes Funeral Home.

The obituary lists the following survivors: his widow; three sons, Marvin and Earl Smith, both of Snyder, and Hoyt Smith of Crockett,Tx ; two brothers, Robert(Bob)Smith of Snyder and Arthur Smith of Houston; four sisters, Mrs. Annie Van Dyke; Mrs. Cora McWilliams and Mrs. Myrtle Allen, all of Wingate; and Mrs. Noama Pierce of Sweetwater, and eight grandchildren.
