Roath, Dean Garfield Dean Garfield Roath, 62, a resident of Baton Rouge, a native of New Jersey, a retired officer of the U.S. Coast Guard, a retired employee of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and the owner of Mariner's Tops and Canvas, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Summit Hospital in Baton Rouge. Mr. Roath served in the U.S. Coast Guard as an officer for 20 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, an avid fisherman, a member of the Knife Makers Guild and a past instructor of boating and safety classes for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Visitation will be Saturday, May 28, from 1 p.m. until a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the Greenoaks Funeral Home chapel. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Renee Elizabeth Genung Roath of Baton Rouge; parents, Dean Gilbert Roath and Viola Roath of Issaquah, Wash.; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly Roath Bourland and Scott Bourland of Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Justin and Kyle Bourland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation at http://www.cgfdn.org/main.html.
