He was born on May 18, 1974 in Roseau to Vicky Norman and Darwin Brandt. Growing up in Roseau, he was active in all sports, one season led into the next. He enjoyed them all, but hockey was his first passion.
JB graduated from Roseau High School in 1992. Following high school, he went to work at Polaris Industries as a welder for a few years and then worked as a drywaller for Sanford Klamar Drywall for many years. JB spent some time in Florida working with his father drilling wells.
JB was currently living in Rochester, MN so he could be closer to the Mayo Clinic due to his on going health problems.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman that loved the outdoors; he had a passion for music and loved to write down his thoughts and feelings. He also enjoyed cooking, as it was a form of relaxation. JB was one of a kind that liked to keep people guessing. He always had a soft spot in his heart for his nieces, nephew and his grandma, Margie that he loved to spend time with.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Delton Norman and Floyd Brandt.
Survivors include his parents, Vicky (Phil) Cole of Roseau; Darwin (Doris) Brandt of Naples, FL; his sisters, Amanda (Rodney) Zimmerman of Vassar, MB, and Katie Cole of Fargo, ND; his grandmothers, Marjorie Norman of Roseau and Faye Brandt of Roseau; his nieces, Haleigh, Emma and Mollie Zimmerman; his nephew, Wyatt Zimmerman; his many aunts, uncles and cousins.
