Marie Caroline Christiane Zahn was born on 19 Aug 1834 in Farnstädt bei Querfurt, Sachsen-Anhalt to Gottlieb and Marie Rabenhold Zahn. She was baptized in Skt. Johannis u. Pauli, Oberfarnstädt, on 31 Aug 1834. She emigrated to Texas with her family at the age of 15 aboard the Hamburg in 1849 bound for Galveston. However, both of her parents died at sea leaving her and her two younger sisters, Wilhelmina (12) and Emilie (10 mo), as orphans.

The three Zahn children were taken in by the Ferdinand Engelking family when they arrived at their destination in Industry, Austin Co. In 1851, at the age of 16, Marie married Ferdinand Dorbritz. Ferdinand Dorbritz also assumed the guardianship of Marie's sisters at that time. Marie and Ferdinand lived in New Ulm, Austin Co, and had 9 children between 1852 and 1869, one of whom died as an infant.

Marie and Ferdinand were divorced about 1870 and she moved to Goliad County with 3 of their children while the other 5 remained with their father in New Ulm. Marie remarried to Heinrich Boesche on 21 Apr 1872 and had 5 more children. Their first child, Ed Boesche, was apparently born in late 1870 and died in early 1871 before they were actually married.

Heinrich Boesche had been previously married to Caroline "Augustine" Miller and lived near Brenham in Washington Co. Heinrich and Augustine had 4 children between 1857 and 1866 and were divorced about 1870. All 4 children remained with their mother in Washington Co. who remarried to Ernst Knolle in 1871.

It is interesting to note that Heinrich Boesche's first wife, Augustine Miller, was the sister of Wilhelm Friedrich (Fritz) miller who was married to Wilhelmina Zahn, the sister of Heinrich's second wife.
