The Franklin Democrat, Friday, September 11, 1885, Volume XXVI, Number 11, page 6, column 3

MORGANTOWN ~ Mirtie, little daughter of George Montgomery, died on last Sunday of brain fever. Mr. M. has been sadly bereft by death in the last three months, first by the loss of his beloved wife, and now little Mirtie has gone to that land of sunshine and flowers and her little grave –

It lies ‘neath a bed of moss,
Where the woodland flowers wear their silken gloss
And deep blue violets run across.
We know not and we only know
A life by death’s harsh overthrow,
Now lives above that lived below.

The Franklin Democrat, Friday, September 25, 1885, Volume XXVI, Number 13, page 6, column 3
