Dolores Glendora (Gustafson) McLaughlin, age 82, died on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, Washington.
She was born in Noonan, North Dakota to Joe and Bertha Gustafson March 26, 1927. The Gustafson farm was a place that all the children and grandchildren remember as being fun and loveing. "Dee" (Dolores) grew up learning how to be a great cook and superb seamstress. Her home was a product of her parents' Scandinavian farm ways. She told numerous stories of her childhood, like going to school as a young girl in a horse-drawn sleigh, playing with dozens of kittens in the milking barn, drawing water from a well, using a two-holer-out-of-doors 'restroom', always smelling baked bread and sleeping on a feather ticked mattress that had a pot under the bed.

Robert and Dolores McLaughlin were married on June 1, 1946 in Anoka, Minnesota. They met while working at the Federal Cartridge after Bob returned from the war. In 1952 they moved to Gold Hill, Oregon; the couple worked together in the Rogue Valley area as "McLaughlin and Son Logging" and also "Mac's Sand and Gravel." Dolore's home was a welcome place for all, lots of food, fun and laughter; yet still she also made sure homework was completed and the business bookkeeping tasks kept up-to-date.

In 1967 the McLaughlin's moved to the Skagit Valley area, finally settleing in Sedro-Woolley where they owned and operated Specialized Auto Electric on Hwy. 20. They retired in Sedro-Woolley where "Gramma Mac's" house became The Hub for most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dolores cared for others, and herself, in her own home up until the very last days. The day never came when she wasn't still baking cookies, making some grandchild a quilt or helping some kid do homework or make a Halloween costume!

She is survived by her four children: daughter Denice McLaughlin of Clinton, Washington, son David (and wife Nancy) McLaughlin of Sedro-Woolley, daughter Diana Sipe of Oak Harbor, daughter Bobbi Beckham of Sedro-Woolley; and sister, Esther Dixon of Ray, North Dakota. She had eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild (on the way).

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert who died January 11, 2008 and her brother Glen Gustafson who died in 2004.

A memorial service was held Saturday, December 12, 2009, 1:00pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home followed by a reception at the McLaughlin residence.
