He is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, Douglas (Paula) Hopper of Eagle River, Alaska; a daughter, Denise (Greg) Michael of Riverton; a brother, William E. (Judy) Hopper; four grandchildren, Jake (Glenna) Carlberg, Madeline Poshard, Nathaniel Michael and Katherine Stoppelwerth; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hopper was born May 24, 1939, in Petersburg, the son of John and Eileen McKinney Hopper. He married Frances Polk on June 18, 1960, in Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, John and his parents.
Dennie graduated from Petersburg Harris High School in 1957.
He was a member of Riverton Lavely Lodge 786, a member of the Sweetwater Christian Church, Central Illinois Numismatic Association in Springfield, and a lifetime member of the Williamsville Fire Department.
Dennie worked as a bricklayer with Esslinger Masonry. He then worked at Williamsville Co-op, the Villa East in Sherman and finally at Williamsville School District as a bus driver and custodian.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens, with masonic services starting at 6:45 p.m. and with funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Rev. Roger James officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery near Williamsville.
