SUNNYSIDE--Lloyd Allen Heath, age 76, died December 19, 1995 at his home.
Born October 26, 1919 in Manti, Utah, the son of William Riley and Elisa Henningson Heath. Married Genevieve Dunn; later divorced. Married Rowena Coors April 8, 1978 in East Carbon. Former mayor of Sunnyside. Graduate West High School in Salt Lake City. Long time resident of Carbon County. Served U.S. Navy World War II.
Lloyd's coal mining career began with Spring Canyon Coal in 1947. Later as a loader operator with Kaiser Coal at Sunnyside. A self-made man in the coal industry, he advanced from section foreman, general mine foreman, mine superintendent, general superintendent of operations and finally as mine manager in 1976 of all Kaiser Coal operations in Sunnyside. He was instrumental in achieving a record production of 20,374 tons of coal in one hour period on January 25, 1982. Lloyd retired in 1983 after 35 years of dedicated service.
Member American Institute of Mining Engineers; member, Board of Directors, Utah Coal Operators; member, Rockie Mountain Coal Mining Institute; member VFW and former vice president of UMWA Local #9958.
Lloyd had a deep appreciation and love for the outdoors. His passion was for hunting and fishing with his boys. He was a very caring, sensitive and sentimental husband, father and grandfather. He found great joy in gardening, especially his beautiful roses, golfing and partying with his "buddies." Lloyd enjoyed life and his greatest joy was his family. His appreciation of music, poetry and story telling brought great joy to his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by wife, Rowena Heath, Sunnyside; children, Gary A. and Mary Jo Heath, Kaysville; Jack A. and Karen Heath, Syracuse; Michael L. and Margaret Heath, South Jordan; Carol Ann and Brett Harvey, Sandy; Barbara Jean and Phillip Jaramillo, Olympia, Wash.; Toni Louise and Daniel Vigil, Sunnyside; Chad and Veronica Hobby, Clinton; Nicole Hobby, San Francisco; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Funeral service Friday, December 22, 1995, 12 noon, Mitchell Chapel. Family will be at the family home in Sunnyside Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. where friends are welcome to visit, and at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside, Utah.
