She was a native of Gaston County and the daughter of the late Benjamin Frank Ray and Jessie York Ray.
Gwen was a member of First Baptist Church in Gastonia, choir member, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Chapel Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Gaston Choral Society and a member of the ADK Sorority. She retired from the Gaston County School System with over forty years of service. Ms Ray's service to the students of Gaston County is appreciated.
Survivors include her sisters, Edith Ray and Sybile Trammell both of Gastonia, niece, Susan Trammell and husband Keith Merritt of Charlotte, great niece, Megan Merritt and great nephew, Ryan Merritt.
