Esther Chidester Allred Powell, age 74, of Montwell, died September 28, 1983 at the Duchesne County Hospital of a heart attack.


She was born February 11, 1909 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Lafayette and Elsie Cyrene Hieka Chidester. She married Lenard Allred March 29, 1927 in Mt Emmons, they were later divorced.

She married James Powell January 19, 1960 in Provo and solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1965.


She is survived by her husband, James of Montwell; three daughters and a son, Mrs. William Leon (Lucy) Moore, Provo; Mrs. Richard D. (Dorthella) Baker, Provo; Ila Mae Kellogg, Salt Lake City; and Darold Allred, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Step sons and daughters: Boyd Powell, Roosevelt; Leone Nelson, Sait Lake City; Gardell Powell, Roosevelt; Sandra Aldredge, Vernal; Lars Powell, Roosevelt; Janice Bradshaw, N. Carolina; Dahl Ray Powell, Salt Lake; and Nelson Powell, Roosevelt; 89 step-grandchildren and 18 step great-grandchildren. Brother and sisters: Leif Chidester, Las Vegas; Virginia Smith, Myton; Florence Anderson, and Louisa Mecham, both of Price.


She was preceded in death by three sons: Arnold DeLoy Alfred, Navon C. Alfred, and Tim C. Allred.


Funeral services were held Saturday, October 1, 1983 at 11 a.m.

at the Roosevelt LDS Seventh Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Altonah Cemetery.
