Obituary: Leemon Lee Scroggins

Leemon Lee Scroggins passed away on June 30, 2001, at Heritage Village Nursing Home at the age of 87. He was born in Sasakwa, Oklahoma on September 22, 1913, to M. C. (Milo) Scroggins and Lydia (Biddie Brown) Scroggins. He was raised in Sasakwa and Jackson Communities and attended Spaulding High School. Lee married Hazel Helen Wingo on May 24, 1934. He was a farmer in the 1930's and 40's and worked in the oilfield until he retired in 1978. After retirement, Lee worked as a night watchman for Rockwell Drilling. He was baptized at the age of 9 and reaffirmed his faith in 1993.

Survivors include one son, Larry Scroggins and wife, Karen of Holdenville; two daughters, Janice Smith of Holdenville and Flo Martin of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Scroggins of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Fran Byerly of Edmond, Oklahoma; Mark Smith and wife, Amy, of Sasakwa; Julie Smith of Oklahoma City; David Scroggins and wife, Stacy of McAlester; Jason Scroggins and wife, Gennie, of Holdenville and Bradley Scroggins and Scott Scroggins, both of Oklahoma City; great grandchildren, Chad Byerly of Tulsa; Alisha Byerly of Holdenville; Colby, Travis, and Jillian Scroggins of McAlester; Zachariah and Elijah Smith of Sasakwa; Madison Scroggins of Holdenville; sisters, Opal Yarbrough of Muskogee and Jessie Belle Sims of Seminole, Texas.

Lee is also survived by Etta Howard and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; one son, Lanny Scroggins; one grandson, Bryan Paul; brothers Harvey (Jack) Scroggins, Raymond Scroggins, and Troy Scroggins; sister, Bessie Price, Lora Brazil and Odie Gordon.

Funeral Services were at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2001, at the Hudson Phillips Chapel with Reverend Jim Freeman officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark Smith, David and Jason Scroggins, Brad and Scott Scroggins and great grandson, Chad Byerly. Burial will be in the Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.
