Richard was born to Calvin T and Sarah Jane "Sallie" Stowe April 29, 1888. He joined 4 other siblings and the last, Nellie, was born 3 years later. He was just 8 years old when his father died.
According to his WWI draft registration, dated June 5, 1917, he had already served 3 years with Troop M of the 13th Regiment in the US Army. He stated he was supporting his mother. He also had injuries listed as a dislocated shoulder and two fingers on his left hand permanently injured. The injuries likely from his previous service. However, this service was not reflected on his military record.
He re enlisted and was discharged December 13, 1918. He was a Corporal in the F Truck Company, 8th Corp AP, Wagner Troop M, 15th Cavalry.
May 12, 1921 he was diagnosed with pneumothorax. January 1, 1923 at midnight, he was pronounced dead of acute pneumothorax (blood in the lung area). At that time he was a textile worker. Richard left this world at the age of 33 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was living at 10 Lyle Street, Rock Hill, South Carolina, but the home is gone now.
It appears Richard did not marry.
*He should have had a military headstone to honor this brave soldier.
