STANFORD - Shannon Baxter Corman, 80, of Stanford died Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at his home. He was born Nov 4, 1929 in Jessamine County to the late Luther Young Corman and Rose Ella Corman. He was retired from the KY State Police. Shannon was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, an Army Veteran of the Korean War were he served as the Commander of the 73rd Tank Battalion. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Master Sgt. after 20 years service; he graduated in the top 5 of the Class of 1953 KY State Police Academy; he worked with the founding organization for the Trooper Island Boys Camp with the KY State Police; he was a member of the Lincoln Masonic lodge #60 and an Oleika Shiner in Lexington; he was a special deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Dept. under Sheriff Curt Folger and was the owner of Corman's Gun Shop since 1982. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Louise Disponette Corman of Stanford; 4 daughters Debbie Gander (Bo) and Cindy Hardwick (John) both of Stanford, Deronda Medlin (William) of Watertown, TN and Teresa Burdine (Jim) of Bryantsville, KY; 2 sisters Eleanor Mills of Lexington, KY and Grace Smith (Billy) of Somerset, KY; 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 3 special men who were thought of as sons, Jeff, Tom and Steve Ralston; he was preceded in death by a brother Luther Y. Corman and a sister Fannie Corman. Visitation will be Thu, Jan 21, from 4-9pm at Stanford Baptist Church; funeral service will be 12:30pm Fri at Stanford Baptist Church. Reverends Stewart Dawson, Vola Brown and Kerry Jones will be officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with the Kentucky State Police and American Legion presenting honors. Casketbearers will be Mike Ashley, Ronnie Smith, Eddie Johnson, Jeff Ralston, Tom Ralston, Steve Ralston, Larry Fight and Jimmy Henderson; Honorary bearers will be Shannon's grandchildren. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to Shiners Hospitals for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502. Spurlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
