Mindon was born in Last Chance, an old community in Callahan County. He lived in Taylor and Coke Counties, Texas and in Oklahoma for brief periods during his youth, but the family returned to Atwell in Callahan County. There he met and married Letha Rouse. In the 1940s he moved his family to Baird, and for many years was employed by the Callahan County Co-op. He died in Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene.
