The Hastings Daily Gazette Journal printed an annoucement of the death of Myron E. Palmer on Feb. 3, 1885. It was printed on page 1, under the heading

"Died"--At his home in West Blue Township, Feb. 3d. 1885, Mr. Myron E. Palmer. Funeral at the Baptist church at 2 p. m. tomorrow. A fuller notice of the life and death of this most excellent citizen will be given to-morrow. The deceased was a brother of L. B. Palmer and son of A. B. Palmer of this city.

The Hastings Daily Gazette Journal printed an obituary for Myron E. Palmer on February 5, 1885. It was printed under the heading;

"Obituary"
Myron E. Palmer, who died Feb. 3d, 1885, was born in Marion, Co., Ohio, Sept 20th, 1840. He removed with his parents to Illinois in 1841 and lived there the most of his life until the summer of 1862. He enlisted in Co. A, 83rd Ills. Inft., went immediately to the front, was in the battle of Ft. Donalson and several other battles during his term of three years and six months service, was wounded in a skirmish near Nashville, Tenn., with Morgan's Guerillas, from which he has suffered more or less ever since.
He came to this state in the spring of 1872 but did not like the state at that time, so returned to Ill., but returned to this county in 1876 bringing his family and has resided here ever since. He was married in Monmouth, Ill., in 1867.
He leaves a wife and four children, one boy thirteen years old and four girls younger. He was a hard working, industrious man. His demise will be felt by his family, as through misfortunes he has left them in limited circumstances.
On the morning of the 3d, Drs. Loda, Dynn & Lloyd held a post mor tem examination on the remains of deceased and pronounced the cause of his death cancer of the stomach.

The 1890 special census lists "Jennie" Palmer as the widow of Myron Palmer. According to these records, Myron Palmer was a private with Company A of the 83rd Illinois infantry.
