Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company K, 31st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 17, 1862. The next day he was promoted to Hospital Steward, Field and Staff, and served until he was honorably mustered out on June 24, 1863.

On March 26, 1907 he filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #1362208, Certificate #1136712).
